Services Provided by Hotline

1) GUARDIANSHIP PROGRAM: Provides services on behalf of individuals, ages 60 or older, who have been certified by two physicians to be incapable of caring for themselves. Guardianship is sought through a court ordered process to ensure the health and welfare of such persons when no other appropriate person is willing or able to do so.

2) LONG TERM CARE OMBUDSMAN PROGRAM: Serves residents of nursing homes and assisted living facilities. Receives, investigates, and seeks to resolve complaints of patients' rights violations.

3) OLDER AMERICANS ACT PROGRAM: Provides a comprehensive, countywide network of activities and services based in four senior centers.

4) MARYLAND ACCESS POINT: See separate listing: Previously know as Senior Info and Assistance, Allegany County.

5) SENIOR CENTERS: Senior nutrition, transportation, and activities for a donation at four sites in the County (see separate listings).

6) ADULT DAY SERVICES: Adult medical daycare center and respite services for disabled adults (sliding fee scale).

7) STATE HEALTH INSURANCE PROGRAM (SHIP): Provides confidential assistance for older adults and adults with disabilities on Medicare about their health insurance options.

8) HOME AND COMMUNITY BASED SERVICES: Includes Community Personal Assistances Services [CPAS], Community First Choice [CFC], and Home and Community Based Options Waiver [HCBOW]. Allows services covered by Medicaid to be offered in home (case management, home-delivered meals, and nursing services).

9) RETIRED SENIOR VOLUNTEER PROGRAM: Links individuals 55 and older with volunteer opportunities throughout Allegany and Garrett Counties.
