Staying home not-sick? We've got you covered!

In 1986 Ferris Bueller taught us all that the dream staycation was within reach. All we had to do was stay home and take a sick day … when we weren’t actually sick!

Flash forward to March 2020 where the same “opportunity” has just been forced onto thousands of students and workers across the country. It turns out that staying home not-sick may not be as exciting as young Matthew Broderick led us to believe.

Not sure what to do while you’re staying home well on a sick day? Here are some ideas to get you started!

  • Check out the CDC guidelines on what to do if you or a loved one actually does get sick. It may not be glamorous but it’s a quick read and a great way to avoid misinformation.

  • Start a new TV show, or clear your Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime, or Disney+ watchlist.

  • Catch up on your sleep.

  • Try a new recipe and put all those stockpiled goods to use!

  • Get a head start on your spring cleaning and organizing. Clean the whole house, one room, or just reorganize the apps on your phone. It’s all progress.

  • Call friends and family.

  • Pick a theme and have a movie marathon.

  • Find new music by flipping through stations and listen next recommendations from YouTube or your streaming service of choice.

  • Read a book. Personal library looking a little light? Find a free book online. Don’t have time to read a full one? Check out the four minute summary.

  • Flip through old photos, or better yet create a photo album or scrapbook.

  • Write a (handwritten) letter to a friend.

  • Rearrange the furniture in your room.

  • Learn to play a virtual musical instrument.

  • Take a bubble bath.

  • Doodle! Practice drawing still life objects in your home.

  • Take a virtual walking tour of a city you’d like to visit.

  • Go through your closet and stage a mini fashion show. Consider donating the clothes that no longer fit or match your style as a feel good bonus.

  • Read a magazine. Did you know Google Books offers a ton of free digitized back issues of popular magazines? You’re welcome 😊
